On taking up the post of ADC I looked into the Job description from Gilwell.  It’s more woolly than a sheep, but it basically boils down to ‘Do what the DC asks in the Scout section’. I’ve got plenty to do then!  Word is getting out there.  If you need help then get in contact with me.  I don’t have a magic wand, but I do have some tricks up my sleeve!

So, on going round to see you all I’ve found some very different Troops, all good, and all different.  I’m currently helping out at one on a weekly basis, just supporting a very capable Leader there who needs some breathing space, and I’m also focusing on another Troop who just need pointing in the right direction.  To be honest I’m enjoying being at both.  They’re both very different.

Mission Impossible….

So, my latest project is to take the noisy, rough and tumble Troop, with all their enthusiasm and mix them in with the quiet and reserved Image result for image cartoon campingTroop for 24 hours at a campsite near you……  The thought of it seems quite exciting.  One Troop is providing the programme, and one is checking it.  The point is for both Troops it’s Youth led, and I think that’s something new.  Either way, I’ve not had the opportunity to do it before and I’m really looking forward to it.  That’s the nice thing about being an ADC, I’m not tied to a Troop, I can float between you all!

Whoosh! Whoosh!  Phuft….

Image result for image scrap carThat was the sound of the Pinewood derby entries for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts respectively with only 16 Scout entries I think we could do better next time round.  I know by Scout age they have done numerous Pinewood derbies, but those who enter should get their Model Maker badge  See option 4 about a free running car….  Please, can you make sure appropriate recognition is given out to those who take part.

The camping ‘season’ is almost amongst us.  Please can you be careful when checking out kit that has been stored away for some time.  Gas is a particular bugbear of mine.  I’ve seen a few ‘problems’ there in the past.  Don’t let it happen to you.  Check things out according to the book, well factsheet anyway.  Pay particular attention to hoses and regulators.  Any queries let me know.  I can help.  If you’re after new or replacement kit then don’t forget Go Outdoors.  You get 10% discount as a Scout (just take your scarf in), Leaders in recognition of the service you give, you get a little more.  Don’t be afraid to ask for it.

There’s a leaders meeting coming up,

Apart from a rep from each Troop we will have the big cheese (DC) there himself, and also our very own ADC (activities) who have come up with a few ideas for us.

Watch this space for a mid-month update for what’s coming up….. it’s going to be good!
