To celebrate 100 years since Robert Baden-Powell started Wolf Cubs based on Kipling’s The Jungle Book, local Cub Scouts from Liphook, Liss, Petersfield and Sheet Packs came together at Walton Firs Activity site near Cobham for a weekend camp full of fun and adventure.

The Packs were split into mixed teams which took part in a variety of activities such as caving, which was a new experience for everyone, climbing on a bouldering wall, archery and building fires to cook pancakes and toffee apples.

Using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to power drinks-bottle boats proved fun, especially when they backfired, although the balloon powered ones were more reliable. There were competitions and games charging about the woods which appealed to both Cubs and young leaders.

With a total of over seventy in camp, adults and young people had a great weekend enjoying the warm weather, making new friends and trying new things – showing that the ethos of Cub Scouting is just as relevant today as it was 100 years ago.
