Cub Scouts from around the area enjoyed a Native American camp in glorious summer weather at Polyapes Scout campsite near Cobham.

The young people worked together in teams to build a camp complete with wigwam and fire, then ground dried maize to make a flour, cooking traditional Johnny cakes over the embers. They all tried archery, made dream catchers and learnt about Indian symbols and tracking.

Nomadic tribes carried their possessions on a travois built from wood and the Cubs constructed their own using lashing and knots that they learnt, then used them to compete against each other carrying items round a course.

It was an extremely busy and enjoyable weekend with all the Cubs having opportunities to try new things and meet new people.
