Young Leaders

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

Introduction

Young Leaders Badge

The Young Leaders’ Scheme is an exciting and dynamic program designed to empower young people aged between 14 and 18 who work with younger sections (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Scouts). As a Young Leader, they become an integral part of the section leadership team, gaining valuable skills and knowledge along the way.

What Is the Young Leaders’ Scheme?

  • Training Modules: The scheme consists of 10 training modules covering essential topics such as a balanced program, child protection, first aid, and leadership skills.
  • Missions (Projects): In addition to the modules, Young Leaders undertake four missions where they put their learning into practice. Think of these missions as practical validation, similar to the adult training scheme.
  • Compulsory Module A: While only Module A is compulsory, completing additional modules enhances their understanding and abilities.
  • Building for the Future: The Young Leaders’ Scheme equips them with the knowledge and skills needed for their current role and lays the foundation for future adult appointments.

Key Points

  1. Age Group: Young Leaders must be between 14 and 18 years old.
  2. Explorer Scout Unit: All Young Leaders are members of a Young Leaders’ Explorer Scout Unit.
  3. Supported by Leaders: They receive support from an Explorer Scout Leader (Young Leaders).
  4. Leadership Skills: The scheme focuses on developing leadership skills that extend beyond Scouting.
  5. Flexible Learning: Completion of modules is based on attendance, allowing flexibility in their learning journey.

Why Become a Young Leader?

  • Personal Growth: Young Leaders gain confidence, communication skills, and resilience.
  • Contribution: They actively contribute to the success of their section.
  • Pathway to Adult Roles: The scheme prepares them for potential adult leadership roles.
  • Fun and Adventure: It’s not just about learning; it’s about having fun and making memories.
