Blimey, it’s December 2016 already, and it seems like ages since my first post.  There’s so much going on!  Things are hotting up on the District activities front.  Plans are now well underway for a District Hike for the Under 12’s in February.  Top tip, wrap up warm and dry!  It might only be a one day activity, but there’s no point in being cold and wet.  For those of you too old for the Under 12’s event watch this space for details of our Challenge hike later in the year.

I’ve now visited most of the troops in the District, what a fine bunch you all are!  Just one of you left to do but I’m busy on the night you meet, until end of January (more on that next month…. maybe).  I can say that each Troop is very different.  It’s interesting to see how each one runs.  I’ve never made a secret of the hardest job in Scouting, that of a Patrol Leader (although the D.C. might disagree!).  The success of the Troop, how well it runs, and the activities they do rests firmly on the shoulders of the Patrol Leaders.  It’s a big job.

For our new recruits (and their parents) there’s a new guide to Scouting available from here.  Of course parents also need confidence in our systems and once again Child protection has reared its head in the news.  If your certificate is out of date the link for the Scout Association course is here.  Whilst you’re in the mood for your ongoing learning, the Safety course is here.  If you haven’t got access to the online courses then let me know and I will arrange it on my next visit.

I wasn’t at the District Carol Service, my boiler had packed up and with a poorly daughter at home that took priority.  From what I heard though well done to 1st Liss for an excellent service.  In the rush I also forgot to press ‘publish’ for this so it’s just over a week late in getting out to you all.  So with Christmas and New year just around the corner can I take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best of luck for 2017!
