A special weekend was held for the older Cub Scouts in the District where they had a chance to try new activities, make friends and have fun.

STEM experiments were set up for them to try out, they learnt about what to expect when they move on to Scouts and took part in a fast and furious Beetle Drive.

Cub Scouts from Petersfield District undertook the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ which entailed walking 10 km along the South Downs Way starting from Old Winchester Hill, climbing Salt Hill and finishing at the top of Butser Hill. As well as leaders, lots of families and a variety of dogs set off in glorious sunshine. The hedgerows were full of seeds and berries and the Cubs were given the challenge of collecting as many different items as possible in a matchbox. On 15th June 2018  1st Petersfield scouts were out Geocaching for the evening. For those who have never heard of it Geocaching is a world-wide treasure hunt for small boxes or containers. Most of these are hidden right under peoples noses!  There are geocaches in towns, in the wild, there’s even one in Space!  To find the caches you can use either a GPS device or increasingly a mobile phone app which gives you a map and a clue!  It’s then a case of following the App to the rough …

What’s better than a birthday? How about 110 of them. Petersfield is home to one of the oldest Scout groups in the world and it was with great pleasure and pride that we took our scouts and their families to celebrate together around the campfire.

Cubs from Liphook, Liss, Sheet, Petersfield and East Meon enjoyed a weekend by the sea learning new skills, having a go at new activities and making new friends. Following the March snow, there was a sharp wind however a bracing hike around Chichester Harbour footpath was good fun as was scavenging on the beach in early Sunday morning sunshine.  Other activities included making and racing Viking longships, learning how to send secret messages and making ice cream using a plastic bag, ice and plenty of salt.

Cub Scout from the District collected used football kit from a wide variety of teams and in many sizes to support KitAid.
KitAid is a charity that recycles once loved football kit and distributes it to children and adults across the developing world. Since 1998 463k items have been donated and the Cubs were proud to help such a great cause. Follow their latest news on Twitter @KitAid.

All eight Cub Packs from Petersfield District competed in the second Swimming Gala to be held since the trophy went to ground in 1988. Churcher’s College pool was a fantastic venue for this event which included both novelty races and more traditional length races.
Teams were identified by special souvenir t-shirts colour-coded for each Pack. Parents and supporters raised the roof as the competition drew to a close with the exciting final of the T-shirt Medley – each of the 4 team members swam a length wearing a hi-vis bib, then …

Gilwell Reunion – Whats it about?
For one weekend of the year Gilwell Park, the home of the Scout Association becomes a playground for any adult connected with Scouting, that weekend, always the first weekend in September is called Gilwell Reunion.
This year was the 91st year and a small group of Leaders from Petersfield District made an appearance.  There were representatives from Sheet, Liphook and Petersfield along with The District Comissioner and Assistant District Comissioner (Scouts).  It was an excellent weekend with all sorts of training, workshops, seminars and socialising enjoyed …
