Just reporting back on a crazy weekend that we all have in October each year! Scouts worldwide meet up for an Online Jamboree held in massive internet chat rooms over a 48 hour period. This year Scouts from Petersfield and Scouts/Explorers and the new Network section for 18-25 year olds based in Liss burnt the midnight oil!

After a really short training session Scouts set about chatting to other Scouts worldwide. Each Unit has a unique identifying number, in the case of 1st Petersfield 5GB74Y. The idea is to chat to other Scouts, find out what they do, where they are from, what camps they go on, and what they like to eat. Sometimes we break out into Skype for video calls, and join in activities online. The Jamboree is so big it even has it’s own radio station!

But for our Scouts it’s an adventure to stay up all night and watch the time zones change. First it’s the European Scouts, then we move from the middle east into India, Indonesia, Australia and eventually the USA before coming back into Europe. Its a long 24 hours!

The tech team at 1st Liss have sent through the following from their session which I think just shows how amazing this is, and from a start around 10 years ago in the District this event continues to grow!
