Welcome to January 2017!  I hope you all had a safe and happy Christmas and have now settled back into School, and work.  We’ve a busy year ahead!  The section Leaders have been given provisional dates for 6 events this year, starting with the Under 12’s day hike, a mammoth journey from Petersfield to Liphook taking in Sheet and Liss.  The exact route will stay secret until the day, so no need to pre plan anything, just find an adult to come with the Scouts.  Any extra adults can come along towards the end to help with tired feet….

Monopoly run 8th April…..  Are you up for it?

On 8th April, following a very successful test with 1st Liss last year, I’ll be holding a monopoly run up in London.  For many the adventure here will be finding your way around the capital using an A-Z and Tube diagram.  No map and compass for this one.  Any volunteers to make up a leaders (or even young leaders) team?  Top tip from the Leaders at Liss is to wear comfy shoes, although youre on public transport all day you still rack up the miles.

I’d also like some feedback from you guys and girls.  On my visits I see lots of good work being done that nobody else sees.  1st Petersfield, go did your amazing Christmas dinner go?  It’s a great community idea.  1st Liphook, did all your Scouts survive?  Was that your last camp of the year?  1st Liss, how was the January Winter Camp at Gilwell?  East Hants Villages, what happened at your first fund-raising event, will you do it again?  1st Sheet, when are you next out on the Common firelighting?  It’s great to see these things but don’t forget to shout about them.  A good programme not only attracts young people but Adults are more likely to join a thriving Troop than one on its knees!

Tell me about this…..

Next month is  month.  Probably the most important month of the year as it gives the young people of your Troops the chance to tell us what they want.  Not all of their ideas makes sense, but you only need that one idea to kick start something.  If you need any more information then have a look at https://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/4450/youshape?cat=708&moduleID=10&dm_i=31ME,DF09,3JERGR,1CHUU,1 or as always give me a shout.  There are district resources to help you!

For now back to January, what are you all up to?  Send me your programmes so I can use this marvellous shop window of Scouting in Petersfield district to the world (evil superhero laugh)!!!!

Finally…..

A monthly competition with a prize!  First person to email me with the answer wins.

(Don’t google it…. A Scout is to be trusted, work it out.)

A farmer returns from the market, where he bought a goat, a cabbage and a wolf (what a crazy market :-). On the way home he must cross a river. His boat is small and won’t fit more than one of his purchases. He cannot leave the goat alone with the cabbage (because the goat would eat it), nor he can leave the goat alone with the wolf (because the goat would be eaten).
How can the farmer get everything on the other side?
