Over the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 2015, the archery club from Liphook Scout Group took part in the Hants & IoW Scout Archery Competition at Lyons Copse, Shedfield.

The archery club was formed in September 2015, so this was our second time of taking part and last year we won two medals, so we were looking to see if we could improve on that number this year.

The competition is split into 4 age groups, U11, U14, U18 and Over 18, and we all compete in 3 different events, field archery – shooting at a variety of different targets position in ditches and with other obstacles in the way, in the woods. Target archery, where depending on age, we shoot at different distances at an 80cm target and then finally the Clout, where a flag is put in the ground at 60 yards for U14 and 100 Yards for over 14’s, then, under instruction, you shoot in ‘Agincourt’ style – a difficult but fun competition.

All those that took part and the parents that came to watch, all enjoyed the weekend. This year we won an amazing total of 19 medals, 8 gold 5 silver and 6 bronze, over all age groups.

We are so proud of all those that took part and at the amount of medals won, a sure sign that the practice we do is worth while. The club runs every week, we started shooting in our hall, but now, when the weather is dry, we are fortunate enough to shoot outside and this has made a massive difference to the progress we have been able to make with the members, and would like to thank The Deers Hut for allowing us to shoot in their field, a key factor in the clubs improvement.
